Summer Fun At Shady Hill Day Camp 2014

The 2014 Shady Hill Day Camp began its second of four two-week sessions on Monday, June 30.
Shady Hill Day Camp 2014 (SHDC) opened just over two weeks ago, and so far campers have connected with new and old friends and counselors and participated in lots of fun activities.

Each day, Camp begins with a fun and energizing morning assembly. In Arts and Crafts, campers have painted with watercolors, built toy spaceships, and created "Surrealist-inspired" drawings in a collaborative drawing project. The most popular games in Sports have been Capture the Flag and a modified version of tag called Chainlink. In Science, campers have studied leaves and flowers, and are now building ramps to experiment with motion. The pool has been the site for both new and experienced swimmers to learn different techniques and just have fun staying cool. In addition to the traditional day camp, SHDC also has a number of half-day enrichment programs that include a soccer group, math camp, and a STEAM program, among others.

The Counselors-In-Training (CIT) and Leaders-In-Training (LIT) programs recently traveled to Harvard Yard to ask people how they define leadership. Over the course of the summer, both programs will give middle school students the chance to learn about leadership, problem-solving, and community service.
