For many years, students in all grades planted flowers around their buildings in anticipation of May Day. Traditional dances have included a sailboat dance, square dancing, Chinese dragon dance, and jitterbug dancing.
1940 The tradition of Beginners wearing bunny suits and hopping on the Green at the start of May Day began.
1946 Parents began to be invited to May Day. In the early years, it was only for students and teachers.
1962 May Day stopped being held on Fridays.
1963 The tradition of Beginners wearing bunny suits and hopping on the Green ended.
1995 & 2005 The school revived the tradition of planting flowers around their buildings on the occasion of Shady Hill's 80th and 90th birthday in 1995 and 2005.
